Young Blue Citizens take the conversation on the road
In spring 2026, members of the project "Young Citizens' Council for the Ocean" brought the conversation about youth participation, ocean politics and international cooperation to audiences across Europe.
We were invited to join the International OCEAN FILM TOUR, where Council Members represented Blue Citizen at events in Zurich, Freiburg and Berlin. Janna joined the event in Zurich, while Anna and Lauritz represented the Council in Freiburg, and Nina, founder of Blue Citizen e.V., joined the event in Berlin.
Across the different events, they spoke about the role of young people in ocean politics and the importance of international cooperation when addressing challenges that transcend national borders.
The conversation continued in Potsdam, where Lauritz and Nina led a workshop at the Research Institute for Sustainability (RIFS) exploring the idea of Blue Citizenship and what it could mean for how we understand citizenship, participation and our relationship with the ocean.
For us, these encounters are an important part of the Council's journey: bringing Blue Citizenship into different spaces, exchanging perspectives, and making the case for young people as political participants today.
